There are lots of microsoft fixit for browsers to troubleshooter. But except for Network troubleshooting nothing worked for me. Internet explorer problems are solved by third party application than by its own fixit tool. Startup repair is the another cool thing, it does nothing. I don't know what kind of solution it gives apart from telling some application to update. Even some of the windows update are deadly. By deadly I mean not working. Currently I have nothing to fix. Just re-installed windows few days back. Was using corrupted windows for a year. Just feel like doing catharsis. Tired of trying to fix corrupted explorer. Most of the fixit tool never worked. I used alternate file manager to browse my files. Windows update used to be blank but doing automatic updates. I do love Microsoft security essential, it was and is great compared to its competitors. And there are few updates, rather than making windows smooth they crash. Who Knows What Comes Tomorrow. No Good Life If There Are No Regrets. WHY SHUT Down XP?? EVERYTHING USED TO WORK GREAT ,until it was neglected. First of all, if you're using Windows 7, you stand a better chance at preventing these things from happening in the first place. When Windows 7 was built, it was finally the breath of fresh air everyone was waiting for from Microsoft-------they had finally built a robust OS that was no longer riddled with all the little hiccups which used to plague the many versions before it, especially the unforgiving Windows Media Player-------Every version from Vista and back had untold issues with that sorry excuse of a media application, but performance was obviously improved in Windows 7----virtually no more crashing when you want to create or move different libraries, etc... You said you used a file manager, so what file manager are you referring to? I must admit your descriptions, for the most part are rather vague. In reality each person's situation and machine including both hardware and software configuration can be very different, not to mention the fact that, generally speaking, if users do not know what they are doing-------then they should not be messing with stuff. No one is saying you can't adjust your system the way you like, but indiscriminately downloading and installing third-party applications which might not play nice with Windows internals is definitely a good way to start causing some damage. As far as Windows Updates are concerned, I completely understand your point and it is echoed by many frustrated users, many of which myself included have been burned quite a few times by Microsoft's faulty patches, but that was also before I started to realize that the best way to deal with bad updates is not to set WU to accept updates automatically-------but instead, it would be safer to set it to check for updates but then let you choose whether to install them or not. That way you get to decide after thoroughly researching the KB number whether or not it is worth downloading it. The majority of critical security fixes should never be avoided, but like I said, do your research on them before you install them. Search multiple sites and links and when you see a common denominator-------this could very well help you decide whether to install or not. If you've been having corruption issues Though you didn't specify what those were , and as you mentioned, you were ignoring them, then you really only have one person to blame for that---sorry to say. Depending upon what type of corruption we're talking about, there are all types of troubleshooting techniques diagnostics that can be implemented to determine and fix the underlying issues-------you just have to know where to look-------and again, I can't stress this enough-------a user must know what they're doing when they implement fixes or edit the registry or replace Windows components that you don't like or anything else. One can't just modify the system all willy-nil and think everything is going to be honky-dory. Program parameters exist for a reason. If you choose not to follow them, then you assume the risk that comes with that. System File Checker is a great tool to use to check for and fix Windows corruptions, however there is a right way and a wrong way to implement this tool. The very first thing you should do is power down your computer completely. Shut it down, then turn off the power switch to your power supply, wait about one minute, then unplug the power supply itself. Next hit the power on button to your computer. This will drain all the residual power from the system and will cause it reboot into a clean power state once rebooted. After the clean power cycle you want to reboot into Safe Mode and then open the Command Prompt to run SFC. If System File Checker doesn't find anything after one scan, it might after subsequent scans, so if you're sure something is awry but can't put your finger on it yet, running SFC a couple of times, is sometimes needed in order for it to find something. Your choice of security, sorry to say, is quite laughable to say the least. MSE is fundamentally weaker than many other security options available from other vendors and there is a good reason why-------because this really isn't Microsoft's strong point to say the least. Why else do you think so many security patches from them fail all the time. Not enough time and resources is spent on testing and tweaking these patches before they are released. Also, implementing EMET or HitmanPro Alert, is a good idea. Both of these can actually work to help layer your system security with things like ASLR and Heap Spray protection. If you can understand concepts such as these in particular, then you're already way ahead of the game. It even allows you to customize which update server your pc will use to check for Windows Updates-------something which might actually work in your case, if nothing else has up to this point. Another thing to remember too, if you've re-installed Windows, you will also have to re-activate it and until you do, Windows Update will not fully function the way it is supposed to. WHY SHUT Down XP?? EVERYTHING USED TO WORK GREAT ,until it was neglected. Hi, that's exactly how I think, ms have had a long time enough to effect a fix. Given the vast number of the people using win 10 we deserve at least a look in....... Hello MS a little time to help all the triers... For Windows users, Windows 7 is still, by far, the gold-standard among business and end-users alike and it will probably stay that way for a long time-------and for plenty of doubtless good reason too... Microsoft has burned it's customers before and it did so again and in the biggest way possible when it literally attempted to force everyone's hand to accept Windows 10 without our permission! This is absolutely unforgivable! Microsoft should be hauled back into court for this flagrant disregard of users rights to protect our identities and to keep our personal lives private! What Microsoft is doing is no different than the way in which a bully confronts it's victim on a school-yard playground when no teacher or other responsible adult is watching-------they push you around and take advantage of you whether you like it or not! It's about time now that a legal agency of oversight, even the high-courts, finally put these corporate bullies in their place and restore back to citizen's that which rightfully belongs to us-------our personal privacy and our right to protect it without being extorted of it by a company simply because they provide a service or product for consumption-------It is outrageous that companies have gotten away with this for so long! And for those whom think that privacy and personal protections are not important, I encourage you to examine the following links below for some very sobering reasons why everyone should be rightly concerned about their privacy-------by refusing to allow companies like Microsoft the ability to assume ownership rights to our very own identities... Manipulation is a dirty old game--------yet new players have arrived on the scene-------and Microsoft is definitely one of them... Attn---Important Note: Microsoft has deleted this comment once already and I fear they will do it again. I obviously touched a nerve with my blatant honesty about a company whom seems more interested in quelling the common dissatisfaction of it's customers with it's products and services, rather than actually doing the right thing by listening to it's customers concerns and by agreeing to no longer snow-ball us in the way in which Microsoft has since it's very inception! But to silence those whom speak out about it's egregiously damaging privacy policies and unethical conduct, is akin to the same type of censorship and mistreatment doled out to citizen's of third-world countries, of which are predominately ruled by a tyrant. Every one whom reads this comment should copy and paste it somewhere so that it can still be shared, just in case Microsoft decides to delete it again-------or to be more precise-------sweep the truth under the rug!
